Here we are again with another massive list of amazing sound objects!! If you are here in Portland I would be surprised if you where inside reading this, given we seem to be getting a sneak preview of full-on spring these last couple of days, although, given the amount if time it takes to compile this list, the weather may have turned by the time it is finished and sent off, or we are in to the sunset period of the day. Regardless, here it is.

This time around we are moving the features to where the general category that is a catch all for genres outside House/Techno and Garage/Bass is at the top. We'll likely change that from time to time, just to keep things interesting. Remember, these are all items our distros are offering which they are importing from far away places over this weekend, which means we like to get the info to them on what we need by monday to ensure the best possible fill. It's not the end of the world if it takes you a few more days to let us know, just keep in mind it may take a week or two more for us to get the highly in demand itmes in on reorder.

MACHINEFABRIEK: Vergezichten 10" (N 031EP)
Rutger Zuydervelt aka Machinefabriek is a master of self-made sound and time-stretching, sensitively handling organic recordings and samples on countless releases, and regards preset sounds in an organ or a cheap keyboard as a tonal find, as a part of the cacophony of everyday life. These bontempi-rhythms plus the computer-stretched sounds of saxophone (Espen Reinertsen) and voice (Mariska Baars) are the base elements of "Vergezicht 1" and "Vergezicht 2." It is stunning how Zuydervelt manages to produce depth and meditative calm with this supposedly soul-less material.

SAROOS: Morning Way 12" (N 034EP)
Saroos are knee-deep in dub. The bass is a massive grounding force, underlying a dialog between exotic pop instrumentation and vocal samples. "Morning Ways" shows an eclectic side of Saroos never explored before. The minimalistic but playful loops and the slightly dizzying beat of "Henderson Island" (produced by Schlachthofbronx) leave enough space for a sparkling accordion line. "East," a collaboration with Fenster, is a percussive ballad with traces of recent UK bass music colliding with erratic guitar work.

URPF LANZE: Procession of Talking Mirrors LP (AUDIOMER 010LP)
The person behind Urpf Lanze is Belgian visual artist Wouter Vanhaelemeesch, who is mainly known for his large-scale ink drawings that offer a hermetic blend of weirdo characters, medieval iconography and surrealist decors. His artwork started gaining some attention a few years ago when renowned avant-garde lutenist Jozef Van Wissemstarted using Vanhaelemeesch's work to decorate many sleeves of his recorded output, including his collaborations with filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, noise legends Smegma, free-folk band United Bible Studies and fingerpicker James Blackshaw. Next to doing exhibitions in places like Tokyo, New York and Paris, his drawings appear regularly in zines and underground publications all over the world. He also runs the audioMER label together with designer Jeroen Wille and has provided artwork for records by Jack Rose, Robbie Basho, Mauro Antonio Pawlowski, Cian Nugent, Graveyards, Second Family Bandand many others. Urpf Lanze is the moniker of his rather unorthodox solo guitar project, under which he has been playing for several years now. With an acoustic guitar that lays flat on his lap, tuned to unwieldy scales, he brutalizes the instrument in an oddly musical way. As if this wasn't enough, he lays down some vocal work that goes from ventriloquist-like whines and mumbles to deep and guttural grunts. The result is a rather unhinged and demented music. Imagine the rawness ofBill Orcutt, the more frightening sides of Loren Mazzacane Connorsand the absurd stylings of Wilburn Burchette all wrapped into aLovecraftian sonic nightmare. Procession of Talking Mirrors is his first full-length solo album. Recorded live on a 4-track tape recorder, these six tracks offer a mixture of Japanese folk music, free psych, scratchy Delta-blues recordings, damaged lo-fi and aggressively percussive fingerpicking. While some tracks may carry a more melancholy tone, others seem closer to acoustic death metal than any kind of folk music. However you may describe it, it is most definitely not a record for the faint of heart.

Rome-based producer Egisto Sopor has been turning heads with a steady stream of most excellent releases. A CD-R on Legowelt's Strange Life Records, a tape on 100 % Silk, a double LP on Planet Mu and an ever-growing series of jams that are put on Soundcloud or on his Youtube channel. All of which offer atmospheric, acid-tinged techno laced with idiosyncratic touches. He has thus developed quite a cult-following among lovers of lo-fi electronic music who eagerly await his next grainy video, that feel like lost transmissions from an early '90s MTV broadcast. Polysick doesn't get out much and keeps a low profile which adds to his rather enigmatic standing. With his new LP Daydream, Egisto has created the perfect soundtrack to a midnight trip through darkened cityscapes. Starting out like a confused jam session, it slowly takes off and twists into uncanny shapes, conjuring up images of a futuristic nightlife that plays out under neon lights, with a feeling of dread constantly lurking in the shadows. This is techno that tells a tale; a storyboard that comes pushing through in muffled flashes. A chase scene through deserted back alleys, executed while hunter and prey are both in a half-awake state, stuck in an infinite loop. And when the ambient synth twirls unravel and a 4/4 pulse kicks in and tears through the dreamy state of consciousness, it never signals a reassuring release of tension. You might dance to it, but not without anxiously looking over your shoulder. 180 gram vinyl limited to 500 copies.

"Joynes Norwich Cathedrals" features the found sounds and homemade instruments of Babygrandwith Glen Hall, broadcasting from Toronto on tenor saxophone. Limited gatefold 180 gram vinyl version with 20-page booklet, plus CD. Well-known as one-quarter of the "classic" Kraftwerk line-up, Karl Bartos' new album is an audio-visual sensation. Lost for many years, some of his early music has been re-conceived and re-contextualized in a thrilling modern setting. Here's the story: during Kraftwerk's heyday, Karl Bartos wrote -- off the record -- a secret acoustic diary. Based on his musical jottings (rhythms, riffs, hooks, sounds, chords, and melodies) this is what he has come up with today -- 12 brand-new, exciting, timeless songs. Many of Kraftwerk's most influential rhythms and memorable melodies were actually conceived in his home studio. They would later be used on an unstoppable succession of hits from the Düsseldorf band as they ascended to the lofty heights of popular music culture. For Off the Record, Karl Bartos has opened up his music archive for the very first time. He rediscovered and analyzed hundreds of tapes, piles of sheet music, and years of digital media. Inspired by his acoustic diary and adding his experience as a composer and producer, he has created 12 brand new songs -- written and performed with masterful skill. It took him two years to accomplish this original Bartos album: iron crystal music, vocoder newspeak, robot sounds, digital glitch, techno pop, catchy melodies, electronic avant-garde, roaring silence, futurism, and, of course, those rhythms. Kassidat: Raw 45s from Morocco is a full-length LP that features six extended tracks from the golden age of the Moroccan record industry. After Morocco gained its independence in 1956, Moroccan-owned record labels sprouted and flourished in Casablanca. The inexpensive 45 rpm format allowed the record companies to release thousands of songs during the 1960s, creating a snapshot of the raw and hypnotic Berber music that thrived throughout Morocco. Powerful traditional styles were still alive and well at this time and untouched by international pop influences. Kassidat looks back at this era and presents it anew for audiences hungry for intense and authentic folk music. David Murray is the curator of Haji Maji (www.HajiMaji.com) a blog dedicated to the exploration of 78 rpm Asian music, as well as www.shellachead.com, a blog featuring 78s from around the world. He previously produced Dust-to-Digital's Luk Thung: Classic & Obscure 78s from the Thai Countryside, as well as the forthcoming Longing for the Past, a 4CD set of Southeast Asian 78s. As the title suggests, the music on this CD is electric dance music. Or electronic dance music, if you prefer. The music here is presented by a brand-new European imprint, set on maintaining a low profile but bringing together its favorite artists from various established labels as well as fresh new talent. All the music is made with computers as well as hardware synthesizers and effects. This first CD compilation represents the first of 26 releases in the set. The beats range from about 130 BPM to 180 BPM. This is music for dancing and more besides. Some have compared it to the music of Squarepusher, Underground Resistance,Drexciya, and Aphex Twin, and labels such as Warp, Planet Mu, and Rephlex -- but this is a very rough approximation. Such subjects of comparison vary enough already, without considering the bonus intensely ambient set you will find towards the end of the album. Sterling work -- bring on the next volume. WRIGHT, WINSTON: The Liquidator Strikes Back CD (JRCD 049CD)
Winston Wright is an unsung hero from the Jamaican musical cannon. Although many might not know his name, you will have heard him on many records in your collections. He played that classic Hammond organ riff on the 1969 "Liquidator" classic, as part of the Harry J. Allstars, in addition to many other 1970s classics that bear the mark of his organ, piano and arrangement skills. Wright began his musical career in the 1960s as a session player and soon became an integral part of the Treasure Isle Studio house band that became known asTommy McCook's Supersonics. He played on many of the rocksteady-era hits that Duke Reid ruled the island with between 1966 and 1968. His mastery of the Hammond organ made him an in-demand session player. He cut some great tunes in 1969 as part of Clancy Eccles' Dynamites. The 1970s saw Winston Wright working closely with Dynamic Sounds Studios' nucleus of musicians, cutting material for all the top producers of the time, including numerous sides for Bunny "Striker" Lee, which Jamaican Recordings has focused on for this set of tunes. From 1975 onwards, Winston Wright was a member of Toots And The Maytals' touring band, but this compilation celebrates his mighty fine studio work, adding his touches to many a fine rhythm as only Winston could.

Jimmy McCracklin is a true legend of blues and R&B, beginning his career in the post-war era and thriving through the '50s, recording scores of jump blues and rock 'n' roll classics. "What's That" was recorded during McCracklin's brief spell at Mercury Records in the early '60s, and is based around an infectious bass guitar and horn riff, with complimenting group backing vocals and a swaggering rhythm. "Part Two" on the flip is new to vinyl, meaning the irresistible groove of "What's That" now plays out longer.

BROWN, RUTH: Mambo Baby/5-10-15 Hours 7" (RB 101EP)
Two absolute classics from Atlantic's first queen of R&B, the one and only Ruth Brown. "Mambo Baby" rode the mambo craze like few other records could, hooking you right in from the shuffling bass and piano pattern of the opening bars. And when Miss Brown joins in with her typically self-assured, sassy, squealed vocals, any resistance is futile -- this is R&B perfection. As indeed is "5-10-15 Hours" on the flip, one of Brown's signature songs, and another of the finest recordings of the 1950s.

DUMP: Superpowerless 2LP (MORR 115LP)
Gatefold double LP version. Morr Music reissues the legendary first album by the solo project of James McNew (Yo La Tengo) from 1993. "Some people complain that friends today are made with mouse-clicks. As if it was more personal in the '90s. James McNew, for example, became a good friend of mine in 1994. Never mind I hadn't even talked to the guy -- hell, he covered Jandek AND Silver Apples. We had so much in common! James McNew is a fan boy. If the name-drop list ranging from Albert Ayler to Young Marble Giants included with his first 45 didn't tell you that, the blazing in his eyes when a name like The Shaggs was uttered, certainly did. Yet McNew is not obsessed with obscurity but with music. When his debut album Superpowerlessappeared in 1993, the choice of covers ranged from Sun Ra to that tuneAudrey Hepburn serenaded to millions of movie watchers, "Moon River." While McNew's high, sexy voice might be "superpowerless," his ears certainly are not. It's been the intimate sound of a 4-track recorder that tied these different angles of his eclectic taste together. Yes,Dump was part of the lo-fi generation. Nothing makes that clearer than the bonus tracks on his follow-up album I Can Hear Music. I count silently to myself and then cautiously venture out into this unknown open space. Here the snow-covered ground rises above me in ascending steps arcing through the plains. As my breath slows I follow the faint constellations of star clusters that hang buoyantly above me. I am softly breathing and almost asleep, unsure of where I am. Cresting the hill the sound of running water carries me back into the trees once more. I'm enticed by glistening droplets of near-frozen dew on the fallen logs that conceal the singing insects residing on the woodland floor. I pull tightly on my bedclothes as warm harmonic tones ease across my frost-kissed ears until broken twigs underfoot break my state of slumber. Back now, my pillow is familiar and warm. The tiny fraction of time between waking and sleep, with no distinct perception of reality is a moment to be held and absorbed for as long as possible. It is the ontologically fleeting moment of the present, as our heavy eyelids close and our pulse slows, that is the inspiration inside the music of Faint, the new album on 12k by Taylor Deupree."

"The Endless Change of Colour exists somewhere between our future and the mistakes and accidents we've made along the way. It is a celebration of both the system and the unexpected. Marsen Jules' latest work is a generative music piece upon a single phrase of an old jazz record split into three audio streams. "This valuable collection of BBC sessions, finds Kevin Ayers at the height of his career, fronting several different line-ups and playing an interesting and rare mix of material, most of which is not found on any of his studio albums. The first session, recorded in February of 1970, features an interesting version of Soft Machine's 'Why Are We Sleeping?' and the campy 'You Say You Like My Hat', backed by all members of Soft Machine, plus Elton Dean and Lol Coxhill on sax. The next two sessions, from May & June 1970, find Ayers backed by his Whole World band, featuring Mike Oldfield, and playing 'We Did It Again', from his days with Soft Machine, along with the whimsical 'Derby Day' and 'Gemini Child'. The final session features only Ayers and Archie Leggett on bass (who would also appear on Ayers' 1973 Bananamouralbum) playing Ayers' 1970 'Butterfly Dance' single along with the classic pop song 'Falling in Love Again'."

The 1954 session -- a sextet line-up featuring Charles Mingus (bass), John La Porta (clarinet and alto sax), Teo Macero (tenor and baritone sax), George Barrow (tenor and baritone sax), Mal Waldron (piano) and Rudy Nichols (drums) -- was made up entirely of Mingus originals, with the exception of the 1925 standard 'Tea For Two.' Mingus' 'Body and Soul,' found here, did not appear on the original LP. LP version. "Hymnal is the fourth kranky album by Thomas Meluch under his musical alias Benoit Pioulard, following Précis (2006),Temper (2008) and Lasted (2010). It was written and recorded throughout a year spent in southeastern England and on the European mainland, during which the ubiquity of religious iconography and grandiose cathedrals became an unexpected muse. Raised as a Catholic but never especially pious, Meluch drew on this aspect of social history as the basis for Hymnal's 12 chapters. He notes a particular preoccupation with the ways that faith offers a sense of solace and belonging in an existence that inherently provides none, framed in a context of tradition, ritual and the notion of the eternal. Themes aside, Hymnal contains some of Meluch's most expansive instrumental works ('Knell', 'Gospel') and fully realized pop compositions ('Hawkeye', 'Reliquary', 'Margin'), making for a rich and dynamic long-playing arc. Also featured are string arrangements by kranky label mate Felix and guitar work from ambient maestro Kyle Bobby Dunn."

"Medical Records is proud to present the quintessential first album by Gina X Performance. Gina X Performance was composed of the charismatic Gina Kikoine (vocals/lyrics) along with famous German producer/musician Zeus B. Held and backing band. Released in 1978 on various labels including EMI, Nice Mover has been out of print on vinyl format since 1980. Zeus B. Held has previously worked with the band Birth Control and has recorded multiple solo albums as well. Nice Moverhas been an internationally regarded electro/disco record with various tracks appearing on compilations throughout the years (e.g. Andrew Weatherall's Nine O'Clock Drop). The track 'No G.D.M.' (a tribute to famous gay actor/writer/personality) was a club hit on both sides of the Atlantic and remains a commonly heard track on better DJ sets to this very day. It is made up of an infectious slow driving disco-esque beat with perfectly aligned and arranged synth accompaniments. Gina's unmistakable and truly unique vocals and lyrics set this record apart from its contemporaries. Tackling controversial subject matter such as transgenderism, exhibitionism, and other fetishes, this record has left a deep mark on the history of new wave and electro/disco. The title track 'Nice Mover' is a cosmic sequenced synth hit and also has appeared on various compilations. The bouncing 'Be a Boy' is a high energy dancefloor cutter that illustrates the internal thought processes and daydreams of a female longing to become a male. 'Black Sheep' continues this theme and is a very catchy number with bonus sheep sounds to keep it interesting. The closing track 'Tropical Comic Strip' starts off with peaceful cricket samples and piano and builds into a bombastic production that is a fitting close to the record. Master recordings provided by Zeus B. Held and remastered by Lafayette Masters, Freiburg. Officially licensed from Mr. Held (KGBeat Productions) directly. This is a seminal work of electro/disco/wave and is essential for fans of late '70s wave-synth-disco crossover and the like. MATHEMATIQUES MODERNES: Les Visiteurs du Soir LP (MEDICAL 018LP)
"Medical Records is very proud to present the much anticipated reissue of the seminal French synthpop classic Les Visiteurs Du Soir by Mathématiques Modernes. Released in 1981 on the famous Celluloid imprint, this masterpiece has been out of print since its initial pressing. Mathématiques Modernes was the project of keyboardist Claude Arto and vocalist/lyricist Edwige Braun-Belmore. Arto has also worked with French bands Artefact and Spions. Also, to note, the late French producer Jacno also worked on the Mathématiques Modernes record. This gem needs no introduction to the fans who have enjoyed the classics from this era. The record is a very diverse blend of new wave, almost progressive arrangement, baroque melodies, complex rhythmic structures, and plenty of so called 'cold wave' sprinkled in. The addition of horns was not a common finding during these times and is also represented on this eclectic record. Probably the most well known track, 'Disco Rough,' was a single as well as was later included on the popular comp, So Young But So Cold, Underground French Music 1977-1983released in 2004 on Tigersushi Records. It is a staple in many DJ sets with its sassy lyrics and jagged synth hooks. The album features string arrangements which were somewhat unique to the new wave scene. Most notably, the track 'Jungle Hurt' displays the wonderful arrangements that interface well with the synth textures and percussion. The track 'A + B = C' has also been featured on various 'flexi-pop' comps and has a quirky melody accented by xylophone. The final track on the LP is an interesting medley of various tracks on the LP with interesting transitions. This LP has become very collectable for original copies and (when rarely found) is quite expensive. The original tape masters have been restored and remastered by Gilbert Castro of Celluloid Records. The sound quality is unparalleled. This project has been the collaboration between Mathématiques Modernes, Gilbert Castro, and Medical Records. The jacket features original reproduction artwork on the front and back. This record will surely need to make a mandatory arrival in the collections of fans of French new wave, early synthpop, and lovers of all things late '70s/early '80s. Presented on 180 gram grey opaque high-quality vinyl in a limited edition of 1000 hand-numbered copies. "A 7" release of primitive D.I.Y. electronics by Sandra Plays Electronics, a project founded by Karl O'Connor (Regis) while he was a teenager living in Birmingham, England in the 1980s. O'Connor, mostly known for his pioneering work in the techno field (as Regis, Sandwell District, British Murder Boys, and various other entities) as well as his Downwards label, began playing and recording his own music when he was 16 years old. He collaborated with friends performing in short-lived bands such as Family Sex and also recorded on his own as Sandra Plays Electronics. He was heavily influenced by D.A.F., Liaisons Dangereuses, Cabaret Voltaire, and Soft Cell, to name a few. He would eventually collaborate with Robert Görl and also Chrislo Haas in the late 90s. The tracks we are presenting here are two versions of the same song, 'Her Needs,' both recorded in Birmingham, England. The first was recorded in 1988 during sound check at the College of Food and Domestic Arts and the second was recorded in 1999 (from the Man Has Responsibilities session) at the Ice House. Pressed on heavy weight 70 gram ultra clear vinyl, the 7" is housed in a matte double sided printed sleeve. Limited to 999 numbered copies."

2013 repress. 2x12" version. Chicago gave us house music. Beginning in the early '80s, as rough edits of disco tunes and primitive drum tracks, spun in dank clubs in the city by DJs like Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles, Lil' Louis, Farley Jackmaster Funk, and Jesse Saunders, the incessant throb of house music soon started to spread around the world. With initial hits from Farley in the mid-'80s, the world fell in love with house; copying it, watering it down in more and more commercial strains. Attention on house music's birthplace quickly diminished, leaving the city full of kids brought up on the early raw sound of house. A second wave of DJs began to emerge, pushing a darker, more rhythmical strain of house that was currently being seen in Europe. DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, Gemini, Cajmere, Glenn Underground, Roy Davis Jr., Paul Johnson, and countless others began releasing their unhinged take on the house sound, and began DJing in basements all over the world, but being largely ignored by the now-gargantuan house music audience worldwide. Debuting on Curtis Jones' Relief Records -- the tougher sub-label of his Cajual label -- Boo Williams dropped his A New Beginning EP in 1994 and quickly established his own sound. More ferocious releases for Relief followed, as did a 12" for renowned Dutch techno imprint Djax. Come 1996, Relief offered Boo an album release, for which he delivered Home Town Chicago, Boo's electronic love letter to house music. While still driving and heading straight for the dancefloor, Home Town Chicago showed a softer side to his sound, and is the perfect place to start Anotherday -- a new label dedicated to shedding light on forgotten classics.

GAMBLE, LEE: Dutch Tvashar Plumes LP (PAN 036LP)
Repressed. Dutch Tvashar Plumes seems to map the changes in Lee Gamble's approach to music-making over the last couple of years. From his initial exposure and subsequent immersion into jungle as a teenager, he soon began experimenting with structure and sound design, which led him to a more "academic" approach to "computer music." There were many self-imposed rules he adhered to during this time. These last few years he decided to break with that and make an intuitive venture forward. This record is the first real document of that. Lee Gamble started out as a teenager DJing on pirate radio and on the emerging jungle scene; however, his own approach to music has taken a more experimental direction. Exploring the outer realms of abstraction through digital synthesis/re-synthesis, Lee has described his current compositional process as: "The configuration of material (ex nihilo) via various digital synthesis methods, prompts further disfigurations and reconfigurations. What you then have left is often the detritus or debris of an idea. Phantasms of both previous and current musical, pseudo-scientific and sculptural influences are manifest as new material abstractions, created from the digital blank canvas. This abstraction allows several interests to appear in the works simultaneously." He is a also a founding member of the UK-based CYRK collective and has curated/co-curated several CYRK events. He has also produced and curated three radio series for London-based radio station Resonance 104.4FM and he continues to DJ. Lee has released his computer compositions on the Entr'acte label and has collaborated with composerJohn Wall and artists Yutaka Makino and Bryan Lewis Saunders. Packaged in a pro-press color jacket which itself is housed in a silkscreened PVC sleeve with artwork by Kathryn Politis & Bill Kouligas. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering and pressed on 140 gram vinyl.

"NNA is honored to be releasing the latest full-length solo recording from Anthony Child, UK electronic music legend perhaps best known for his forward-thinking techno production as Surgeon. A native of Northamptonshire England, Child has been at the helm as a DJ, writer, and producer of electronic music for nearly 20 years, creating works for reputable labels such as Counterbalance, Tresor, and Downwards. Aside from dancefloor-commanding techno, Anthony has also been creating a private collection of tone-based experimental works over the years, much of which has become the backbone for his latest solo album. The Space Between People and Things finds Child revisiting his collection of unreleased experimental studies from the last 16 years, collaging them into an entirely new framework. Using a sound palette reminiscent to his techno works, Child focuses in on the molecules within the sonic textures and frequencies, delicately emphasizing the negative space that surrounds them. These sounds are then intensified to form vast new worlds, enveloping the listener with bright, crystalline detail and clarity. These two side-long pieces seem to exist and not exist simultaneously, filling the listening space as an almost physical presence, to a point where they blend harmoniously with the air that surrounds you. I'll Be There was originally released on the Ultimate Result EP on Italian cult label UMM back in 1993 and has been a fave deep house tune of 4lux head honcho Gerd ever since. The same goes for What You Like actually. This is a truly uncompliacted deep house tune released on Mantini's very own Smooth Sounds in 1992. Now 20 years later these trax still are as actual as they were back then. The two new track that Enrico recorded for this EP complement the release in a nice way indeed. Don't Make is a loose track with warm chords, organ stabs and nicely shuffled beats. Last but not least comes U Deep Me, a fantastic hypnotic bomb that so unds fantastic on any club system.

Who's next, please? It's Sandrow M who was introduced with "The Three Trees" on UV010. Finally, he arrives with his solo debut for the Dresden based label and it ended up being a hell of a record full of diversity. Everything starts with the edgy beats of "Prayervan" that are quickly flattered by one of those catchy melodies typical for Sandrow's synths play. This is great Pop music, even more when Sandrow M starts to sing. "Facerunner" however, is a club tune with its ever rising beats that are accompanied by a superb synth pad. The flipside starts with the catchy anthem "Gonna Make". You cannot defend yourself against this sample that will stick in your head for a long time. And once again it's his synth work that makes the difference. Not to mention the funky solo. "Schnaubi" rounds things up in a more unpolished way with its stuttering drum work. But here again this is refined by those irresistible harmonies out of Sandrow M's keys.

The Atmospheric Existence label puts quality before quantity; therefore a new release from Miles Sagnia's operation is always something deep house enthusiasts should cast their sensory receptors over. Their first release of 2013 sees Sagnia feature alongside Thug Records artist Jacksonville and the mysterious Tales Ov Rossi for the Altitude EP. Label boss in call shotgun shock! Sagnia takes the lead with the wonderfully inventive "Alchemy" which drops a singular 303 tone intermittently between a hurried array of broken house and rushing chords; the results sound remarkably refreshing. Alongside it, Jacksonville is in full on star gaze house mode with "Tokyo" whilst Tales Ov Rossi 's "Flatpress" takes proceedings a whole lot deeper on the flip.

Deep Down Slam laid down a marker of quality house with their debut emission from Washerman and James Johnston earlier this year, and for their second release the label looks to the current strains of house goodness coming out of Ireland. Sligo pair Brame & Klansee collaborate on a double dose of forthright house shufflers with the Alright EP; the title track demonstrates the duo to fully in line with the current vogue for 90s vocal house bumpers. Complementing this, "They'll Be" showcases their craft for infectious melodic hooks. Washerman maintains his 100% Deep Down Slam appearance record with a killer remix of the latter track, retaining the duo's hooks and adding plenty of his own production personality to the mix.

Emotional Rescue certainly laid a claim for the most esoteric of reissue endeavours last year, and they are looking to maintain this approach in 2013. Their first release sees the label dig further into the cassette archives of Kevin Harrison, focusing specifically on the Neo project the Coventry musician did in cahoots with fellow electronic explorer, Peter Every from Neophyte Records. As you can tell from the primitive drum heavy tone of the music, Neo surfaced in 1985 with the 8 track cassette release Global Network. This twelve presents five of those tracks, all of which echo the pulsing electronic rhythms of the Fly EP, Emotional Rescue's previous Harrison reissue, and will find as much favour with those who sleep on the left side of disco as fans of cold wave.

The latest Emotional Response release provides something very special indeed, in the form of a new track from under the radar psychedelic rock musician Nick Nicely. Nicely has been making music from the 70s onwards, but his music has recently undergone something of a critical reappraisal, with the likes of Robert Wyatt and Robyn Hitchcock supposedly inspired by his work; "Wrottersley Road" provides the ideal entry into his music, a masterful piece of shoegaze pop filled with fuzzed out guitars and Eastern psychedelic tones. Remixes are provided by Invisible Hands, who provide a minimal 80's inspired electro-pop version, which comes saturated in radiophonic textures, and The Oscillation, who take the track into even more abstract ambient territory than the original, deep into a place where time seems to stand still entirely, drawing its rich textures out into infinity.

DJ Rahaan features twice on the sixth edition of the Grimy Edits series, supplying his own edit and a collaborative piece with Zernell. Rahaan's first edit, "Rebound", booms with beats, as hands to the ceiling vocals wail above a grooving bass and slicing hats. His second edit, "What!", this time with Zernell, falls somewhere between a disco-mashed version of Myles Davis, Shaft and something from a Guy Ritchie soundtrack. Tim McAllister drops the third and final edit in "I Need Help!" employi ng James Brown's funkadelics to a horn stabby and danceable jam.

Hot on the heels of Ornate Music's last release featuring the bumping house business of Digs, the imprint set their sights on Welsh producer Leif, who has been turning heads with his masterful deep house for labels like Fear Of Flying and Fina since 2003. Kicking off with "Circumstance 4", whose smooth organ refrain drifts over a lightly rolling groove, the vibe switches up with "Every Cloud", whose gentle jazz-inspired piano and abstract, dubbed out soundscape is strongly reminiscent of Floating Point s more freeform productions. However, it's "Each Day Made New" that provides the EP's most surprising moment, an Andres style hip-hop track with a cut-up, sunshine drenched quality calling Recloose to mind.

Matlock's finest Rhythm Plate resurface brandishing a new label in Pressed For Time, and what better way to inaugurate it than revisiting one of their key tracks. Released back in 2002 on the Mantis label run by Atjazz, "Lean Part 2" was a wonderfully sleazy slab of deepness notable for the lascivious vocal hook that hung slinkily over the production throughout. It still sounds superb some 13 years on and is backed with an unreleased version that was done in the same period, along with deliciously freaky new "Leaner" mix from the pair.

Named in homage to the series of collectable football cards from the 1970s, the Rothmans label follows the inaugural Mario Kempes Release with another long-haired icon being given his dues in the form of The Harald Toni Schumacher Release, complete with another four tracks of chugging techno-disco. Emotional Response's Timothy J Fairplay kicks things off with "Off The Rails", an expectedly dark and tense piece of Carpenter-esque synth, while LWE writer Per Bojsen-Moller delivers the atmospheric techno of "Staying Late", whose rippling analogue bassline gives way to an unexpectedly funky breakdown. On the flip, Steve Cook's "Noah's Arp" takes things a Balearic house direction with its thick, filtered analogue textures adding some psychedelic colour to its mid-tempo grooves, while Emile Strunz's "Magnetic" adds some acid flavour to its low-swung, vocoder saturated Italo swagger.

The Soft Rocks collective feature twice on the upstart Black Rox label with two heavily tribal remixes for a so far unknown artist. The Soft Rocks take on "Filaw" is wrapped in horns and jungle sounds - not too far off a 1970s Brian Jackson and Gil Scott Heron collaboration. On the flip is a possible Talking Heads reference in "Once In A Life Time", which gathers mesmeric African drums and percussion, grooving in harmony to ritualistic chant. A Mohican David Byrne perhaps?

The label arm of booking agency Vibes & Pepper have come through with something a bit special for their latest release, with a collection of tracks from the archives of UK house producers Synchrojack. "Back To The Shack" kicks things off with a warm but relentless Detroit house groove, its 303 bassline looping inwards on crisp hi-hats and snare rolls, while "Windfalls" offers a dusty house number with loose, jazzy beats worthy of The Godson. On the flip, "Is It" offers a classic sequence of oven-warm organ chords with trumpet samples buried deep within, while "One (Edit)" offers a semi-improvisational piece of proto-beatdown house, where unpredictable keys mingle with marimba tones and deep sub-bass.

Having established the W&O Street Tracks imprint in 2012 to further push the revivalist house sounds of themselves and their contemporaries, Waze & Odyssey kick present the label's first release of 2013 with a double header of hot house talent. On the A-side, Ejeca, who helmed the last W&O Street Tracks release teams up with US based Rhythm Operator on "Raid", an initially tense house number which explodes into a catchy sequence of lysergic 90s stabs, complete with whooping vocal sample. On the flip, rising London producer Citizen builds on the momentum from a year of strong releases on Love Fever, Five Easy Pieces and Kerri Chandler's Madtech with "In My Mind", a heady combination of hypnotic vocal loops, thick bass, and narcotic organ chords which display a darker side to the producer.

After the excellent reception of the first instalment, Ander-Trax is back yet again with more supremely crafted tracks from label head and all round gentleman Alex-Ander. Nobody really expected such talent to emanate from Coatbridge, did they? Then again, wasn't the fella responsible for that Blueboy "Remember Me" thing from Coatbridge? Maybe that was Airdrie. But hey, in the immortal words of Rakim: "It ain't where ya from, it's where ya at." Regardless of where Alex is from, there's no doubt he's on a seriously deep tip. And with "Deep" House verging into somewhat dodgy territory of late, it's good to have producers around to remind us why we like it in the first place, without getting all retro-fetishistic about it.

This E.P definitely has a strong low-end swing to it, and there's a subtle rawness gathering in the heart of all the productions here. This is probably best exemplified in the tough soul of "Borrowed identity's" "Reflection": reminiscent of some of the less aggressive U.R cuts of the past. In fact, all the original tracks presented here have that elusive touch, one that is actually rather hard to convey in writing. "Broken Tape" by "Alex-Ander" is a leisure-pace stomper worthy of the Fit catalogue, that gives us one of the most syrupy basslines we've heard around these parts in a while "Slowburn's" "Dermopad" brings abstract elements to a righteous groove: well-implemented Chicago/Detroit influences, unafraid to introduce new sound palettes to a heavily aped style. For remix duties, main man Meschi returns after his appearance on Ander-Traxx 001, putting his solid sound signature on "Broken Tape", showing us once again his deft talent for structure and ability to tickle the ivories. Well, the plastic keys you get on synths at least. And maybe tickling isn't exactly an apt description of what he does. Molesting? Hmmm. We'll go for caressing I think.

For the past two decades, DJ SUN has contributed to the live soundtrack of Houston, Texas with an aural palette of funk, soul, jazz, disco, early hip-hop and even more modern genres such as trip hop. It is his ability to seamlessly blend those elements and find ways to shape the music to the contours of the many rooms in which he spins records that has made him a Houston standard, a classic.
One Hundred is the culmination of years of work for DJ Sun. With the release of his “Monday Drive” EP in 2007, he put himself on the map as a producer, following that up with another EP and a couple of singles. True to the buildup to One Hundred, four songs from those releases are included, but with fifteen new tracks to complete the gumbo.
Receiving collaborative assistance from 3-time Grammy winner, Tim ruiz (La Mafia) to engineer the project and lend additional instrumentation (guitar, bass, keys) has further enhanced the ideas with which DJ Sun came to the table. Further collaborations include the first track “Tomorrow,” with E's E from Names You Can Trust out of Brooklyn, a result of numerous trips into the Kensington area of the NY borough.  Meghan Hendley, Mark Sound (aka Mark Speer), and Jessica Zweback, respectively of Tyagaraja, Grandfather Child, and Sky Blue 72 all lent keyboard help to “Break Remix”, “Marksonthekeys,” and “Ten.”
For the lead single of “Heart Seed feat Leah Alvarez,”  DJ Sun recruited fellow producer/dj, The Are to do a hip-hop styled boom-bap kind of remix.  The Are, also a Houston native is a multiplatinum producer from the Trackmasters production group who has recently had the production credits on respective lead singles for LL Cool J (“Take It feat Joe”) and Keyshia Cole (“I Ain't Thru”).
