PROSTITUTES: Crushed Interior LP (DIGI 052LP)
Jim Donadio's debut Psychedelic Black album as Prostitutes came out in 2012 and ended up on many year-end lists, fitting in somewhere between the post-noise abrasive techno of Pete Swanson, Container, Nate Young, etc., the roughened post-punk hues of Powell and the more precision-built constructions of the Raster-Noton label. Donadio's follow-up, Crushed Interior, arrives via Digitalis and picks up where he last left us, taking us through to the next, blackened layer of re-formulated techno templates. Opener "Coming Down Here with Human Needs" lifts slowly but eventually gets sucked down a filtered rabbit-hole before crashing out the other side on top of minimal, crushing rhythms, while "Dial Tone Degradation" pummels you into submission with a no-holds-barred assembly of industrial machinery pounding out massive rhythms that build in intensity until there's no room for the growling bass lines to maneuver. Where Prostitutes really excels, though, is in Donadio's ability to know when to pull it back and let the listener breathe for a minute. The middle duo of "Through Their Hungry Lips" and "Spiders in My Eyelids" sound like the leftovers of a strip-mining operation. The former bounces cryptically with only the vaguest hint of a beat while the latter would be meditative if it wasn't so dense, that sense of unease permeating through to the end of this excellent album.

A-SUN AMISSA: You Stood Up for Victory, We Stood Up for Less LP (GZH 044LP)
A-Sun Amissa is a project formed out of Leeds, UK in 2011 by members of Glissando and The Rustle Of The Stars. Built on the foundations of the unknown, a project that encompasses minimalist drones, modern-classical movements and avant-garde tendencies. Richard Knox (Glissando, The Rustle Of The Stars, Of Thread & Mist) and Angela Chan (Glissando, The Rustle Of The Stars, Ten, Tomorrow We Sail) began forming the initial ideas in the Autumn of 2011, moving away from the piano-led ambience of previous outputs. You Stood Up for Victory, We Stood Up for Less sees A-Sun Amissa moving in a more dense direction, the drones are heavier, the sound thicker and with the added bass-clarinet of Gareth Davis, there is a new, slightly darker jazz element to the music. The two tracks were conceived initially as two drone guitar pieces -- following that, work was done on the composition and atmosphere of the tracks, adding the bass-clarinet, viola, vocals, field recordings and piano. The finished works produce an unsettling but hypnotic listen, with melodies moving in and out of the mix throughout these two pieces. Limited edition of 300 vinyl-only copies. Includes mp3 download.

L. PIERRE: The Island Come True 2LP (MELO 081LP)
Double LP version. Comes with a digital download card. Across his many projects past and present, it's under the moniker of L. Pierre that Aidan Moffat has perhaps best opened up the bare bones of his thirst for sonic exploration. The Island Come True is Moffat's fourth album as L. Pierre and is a work assembled from the vast cavern of his assembled field recordings and samples -- a collage that works as a sonic patchwork of the artist's own mind. A popular lyrical raconteur whether as one-half of Arab Strap, writing under his own name or when collaborating with Bill Wells -- as on last year's "Scottish Album Of The Year" award-winner Everything's Getting Older -- it's as this incarnation where the true extent of his musical eclecticism is revealed. As such, the album is as a dreamscape, with fragments of classical works, drum samples, instructional speeches and, in a link back to his last album, recordings of nature. Electronics elements previously employed on past albums have been discarded, the album in its entirety consisting only of these found sounds. The record is overridden by the hissing of tape tracks and drones, and "sadness" is a word that could readily be used to describe big sections of Island Come True, a fine line trodden between soothing warmth and bleaker depths throughout. Song titles delve into the extraordinary, the surreal and, more often than not, the sinister; "KAB 1340" is the name of the radio station being listened to in John Carpenter's The Fog, "The Grief That Does Not Speak" is taken from a speech in Macbeth, "Tulpa" is a Buddhist term for a physical object brought about purely by the power of the mind. For all the wonderful work that he's put out in his various guises, it is arguably as L.Pierre where he's at his most beguiling and unexplained, collecting and sculpting these pieces of aural history together for reasons that he never quite tells us.

K-X-P: K-X-P II LP (MELO 084LP)
Limited LP version pressed on 180 gram vinyl; includes download code. Finland's finest are back with something truly epic. Where K-X-P's 2010 debut was an exercise in Kraut-tronica, K-X-P II finds the band unleashing their inner pop deviance. This is an album full of rock 'n' roll shamanism, glam-punk madness, grinding dance music, electronic Motörhead techno -- and a bit of Krautrock, too. K-X-P comprises frontman Timo Kaukolampi (electronics, vocals and the "K" in the band's name) plus Tuomo Puranen (bass, keyboards and the "P" in the band's name) and drummers Tomi Leppänen and Anssi Nykänen (the "X" -- for the mystery). While Tomi is a permanent feature of the band and the two drummer line-up is a studio-only affair -- it has been known to happen live on rare occasions. Born from the ashes of seminal Finnish groups Op:l Bastards and And The Lefthanded. This record was written in Berlin and completed in Helsinki. Timo travelled to the German capital in search of solitude. "In Berlin I was totally alone, a nobody in the shadows of this city. It offered new challenges for me to break through; a jungle of concrete and, the antithesis of myself: absolute hedonism," he says. The band recorded in converted cinemas and traditional studios, surrounding themselves with vintage equipment, analog electronics and -- for the first time -- analog step sequencers. Before K-X-P, Timo worked in the Xenomania pop factory, where he composed for -- among others -- Annie, who appears as a guest vocalist on K-X-P II. While The Misfits' early recordings, devotional chants, PiL and Bad Brains have been added to the band's list of musical influences, lyrical influence still comes from a dreaming place.

FLOWER TRAVELLIN' BAND: Satori CD (ASH 3002CD)
2013 repress. The Flower Travellin' Band's first musical outing, Challenge, was released in 1970 and was essentially a series of covers of Cream, Hendrix, Big Brother and Jefferson Airplane material. However, Satori appeared a year later and forever changed the way the group would be perceived, both in Japan and in the musical world at large. Possessing the vision to select Akira "Joe" Yamanaka as their vocalist, the Flower Travellin' boys elevated themselves above other Japanese bands of the time, whose efforts were largely confined to imitating British and American bands of the era. Satori, which was released in 1971, is a conceptual hard rock/psych album driven by Hideki Ishima's furious guitar licks which erupt and explode over the harmonic heart beat of the drums and bass and Yamanaka's banshee-like vocal style which was turning him into an occidental Iggy Pop or Robert Plant while the band itself was rapidly becoming Japan's answer to Led Zeppelin. Satori is a huge album in every way. From power chords to Eastern-tinged North African six-string freak-outs and crashing tom-toms, the band flexes its collective muscle from start to finish. In short, this is a real rock classic of the type they simply don't make any more. Housed in a limited-edition card wallet.

BETTING ON THE MOUSE: Betting on the Mouse LP (QA 005LP)
LP version. This is the first international album by the Copenhagen and Berlin-based band Betting On The Mouse and the fourth album on Questions & Answers. Betting on the Mouse is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Martha Marie Skou. With a background in various fields of the Copenhagen creative scene, Martha Marie Skou is somehow the anchorwoman of the band with members Xian Foo (brother of Sharin Foo/Raveonettes) (drums), Kristian Haarløv (guitar), and Jonathan Aardestrup (bass). Betting On The Mouse formed in 2009 and have since played several concerts around Denmark. In 2011, they released their first EP and were applauded wildly by public decision-makers all over. Danish music magazine Undertoner wrote: "It is early in the year, but I can already predict that BOTM is competing to become this year's record. A truly excellent debut." Betting on the Mouse is intense modern alternative pop with organic instruments and much love given to electronic detail. With an almost brutal honesty, the songs invite you into a universe of dysphoria, but lifted and driven by desire and playfulness. Martha Skous' crystal-clear, seductive and charismatic voice brings her audience a sense of hope, yet celebration while the lyrics center around much of today's everyday urges: restlessness, passion, the fear of life slipping through your hands, and the need to accomplish something.

GRAND GENERAL: Grand General CD (RCD 2139CD)
Having played a handful of sensational gigs as Kenneth Kapstad Group, this impressive line-up is now ready with a more fitting name for their debut album, Grand General. Ola Kvernberg comes from a family of musicians and started classical violin studies at the age of nine. He also played folk music early on and appeared on a record when he was 14. He started playing jazz at the age of 16 and got his education at the Jazz Academy in Trondheim, a breeding ground for many great musicians. His proper breakthrough came with the album Liarbird (2010) which won him a Norwegian Grammy and was received with wide acclaim both in Norway and abroad. As with so many musicians of his generation, he has played with "everybody." He is notably featured on Motorpsycho's The Death Defying Unicorn. Even Helte Hermansen is a guitarist extraordinaire in power-jazz trio Bushman's Revenge, with four albums on Rune Grammofon. A former member of black-jazzers Shining, he grew up listening to everything from Kiss and Pantera to Frank Zappa and John Coltrane. Erlend Slettevoll is yet another graduate from the Jazz Academy in Trondheim. He has worked with several of Norway's most accomplished jazz ensembles, most notably as a member of The Core and Petter Wettre Quartet. Trond Frønes is the main writer in Grand General and known from bands like Cadillac, El Doom & The Born Electric, and lately doom-metal trio Sunswitch. Kenneth Kapstad has been a permanent member of Motorpsycho since the creative burst that started with their Little Lucid Moments album in 2008. He also plays in the extreme metal duo Monolithic with Stian Westerhus, the death/trash metal band Goat The Head with Trond Frønes and Møster! with Kjetil Møster (Ultralyd) and Nikolai Eilertsen (Elephant9). With a violinist on board, it's difficult not to mention the Mahavishnu Orchestra when trying to place Grand General in a musical perspective. However, as gifted as these musicians are and as accomplished as the music can be, you never get the feeling that they play to show off their instrumental skills, but to serve the music. Grand General are: Ola Kvernberg (violins, viola); Even Helte Hermansen (guitar); Erlend Slettevoll (keyboards); Trond Frønes (bass); Kenneth Kapstad (drums).

49 AMERICANS, THE: We Know Nonsense LP (STAUB 123LP)
LP version. Long-awaited reissue of the second full-length album from 1982 by late 1970s/early 1980s UK DIY super-group The 49 Americans. The main instigator behind The 49 Americans was Andrew "Giblet" Brenner, who assembled a loose, disparate group of musical/non-musical practitioners as an experiment in equality and democracy. This democracy included David Toop, Steve Beresford, Max Eastley, Lol Coxhill and Peter Cusack (coming out of the anything goes improv scene), Nag And Bendle of The Door And The Window, Viv Albertine of the Slits, Vivien Goldman, Giblet's mum, and many more. The Wire listed We Know Nonsense in their legendary list of "100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening) + Extra 30 Records": "Not many of those visiting the London Musicians' Collective venue in Camden Town during the late 1970s, and hearing the free improvisers active therein, would have conceived the idea of recording an album of happy-go-lucky pop songs with them. But that's exactly what American expat Giblet (alias Andrew Brenner) set out to do, and so here are 17 doo-wop, disco and samba ditties produced and co-written by David Toop and Steve Beresford. Musicians include Lol Coxhill, Peter Cusack, Max Eastley, Viv Albertine (of The Slits), and Etta and Eddy Saunders."

Initially released separately in 2008, 2009 and 2012 respectively with custom letterpress jackets, this collection includes new retrospective artwork by John Brien. Each disc comes in its own one-color silkscreen jacket using the same blue, orange and green from the original editions; all housed in a rigid white satin-coated slipcase with spot varnish printing, hand-numbered out of 800. Eleh, an artist who flourishes in restraint, uses a reduced sonic vocabulary to highlight delicate intricacies in a logical path toward harmonious satisfaction. The organization of hypnotic square waves, rippling sine waves and triangle/saw tooth waveforms is a discourse in the infinity, rather than the limits, of reduction. By employing a natural practice of balanced interpretation, Eleh enables an individual reaction free of the clutter of white noise.

Domenico formed his first rock band in 1974 and his first disco band in 1978. In 1979, he recorded 'If Are You Master,' 'Love Dawn,' and 'Flood' and later recorded 'Hookey' in 1982. This EP brings together four of his best songs, which were released on various hard to find 12"s throughout the years. He announced the tune as being sung by Lloyd Ruddock, 'King Tubby's from Jamaica's brother.' That man of course, is better known as Scunna, the original force behind the Jayes, who had a string of massive hits in late '70s for Channel 1, like 'Queen Majesty' and 'Truly.' As Scunna is also now a Brooklyn native, we checked him to find out more about the tune. 'Conquering Lion' was given by Prince Jazzbo to the then-young Coxsone sound system in London, for play and promotion on the sound. Over the years and through the Capitol Radio broadcast, the tune became legendary."

"The super group Deltron 3030 is composed of producer Dan the Automator, rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien and DJ Kid Koala and sometimes features guest artists who also take on varying futuristic pseudonyms. Originally released in 2000 on the now-defunct 75ARK record label, this hip hop concept album was released the same year as the Gorillaz' first 12" and is on a similar plane. Following the release of Deltron 3030, all three members participated in the Gorillaz' self-titled debut album. With Del aka Deltron Zero on vocals, Dan the Automator aka The Cantankerous Captain Aptos on production, and Kid Koala aka Skiznoid the Boy Wonder on turntables, this album takes the listener on a paranoid journey set in a dystopian year 3030 dealing with viruses, the apocalypse, an oppressive government, and a war waged against a huge company called the Corporate Bank of Time that rules the universe, all to the well-crafted and consistent musical backing of the Automator. Appearances by Damon Albarn (The Gorillaz, Blur), Prince Paul, Peanut Butter Wolf, DJ Money Mark, Paul Barman, Mark Bell (Bjork, production), Sean Lennon, and Mr. Lif compliment Del's vocal style and add the right amount of flavor to this classic period piece."

TOY LOVE: Toy Love 2LP (FNCT 001LP)
"This 28-track double LP compilation collects all the A and B sides of the three Toy Love singles, plus the best demos from 1979, a live track, and even a radio jingle - all mastered for vinyl, straight from the original analogue tapes. Housed in a gatefold jacket, a 24 page booklet accompanies the release with photos, ephemera, and commentary from Toy Love. The back cover features a sketched cartoon of an early Toy Love flyer drawn by Chris Knox. Evolving from Dunedin band The Enemy, Toy Love had a brief but bright existence between January 1979 and September 1980. Invoking the ghost of punk and the melody and creativity of '60-'70s pop, they were peerless at a time when New Zealand music was still struggling to imprint itself on the national consciousness. They became a model for local musicians around the country and inspired the birth of Flying Nun Records -- a label which many from the band went on to work with, including Chris Knox and Alec Bathgate with the Tall Dwarfs and Paul Kean with The Bats. Then, in 2005 Flying Nun released Cuts, a double CD anthology of Toy Love material. Electrifying and unmissable, Toy Love made an impact on all who saw then, and continue to do so around the world today."

"Panopticon's Kentucky was released last year as a limited gatefold 2LP and sold out upon release. There is now a CD edition of the album with alternate cover art. This was selected as one of the Top 10 Metal Albums of 2012 by NPR. From one of the most prolific and innovative minds in metal comes a seminal work, a milestone, reinventing the parameters of metal to include threads of bluegrass and lyrical themes centered around Kentucky and its rich history embedded in coal mining struggle. This is by far the standout work by an artist who has already delivered such personal and revolutionary work as On the Subject of Morality. Mixed and mastered by Colin Marston, this is also Panopticon's most sonically blistering release to date."

DEATHPILE: G.R. LP (HOS 088LP)
"From 1995 to 2004 Jonathan Canady led the classic American power electronics band Deathpile, which culminated in the 2003 release of G.R., the band's final album. Co-released by Force of Nature Productions and Hospital Productions, the album instantly set a new benchmark in extreme music, providing a fully realized, investigative, confrontational intensity, while exploring the perspective of the perpetrator, in this case one Gary Ridgway. Longtime industrial and experimental musician David E. Williams provides masterful analogue synth work alongside Canady's devastating vocal performance, which stand's as one of the most powerful in all of extreme music's history, a testament to controlled chaos and full immersion into the most challenging of subject matters."

BLACKSHAW & LUBOMYR MELNYK, JAMES: The Watchers CD (IMPREC 375CD)
"The Watchers is a historic collaboration between Lubomyr Melnyk and James Blackshaw. These new pieces are being released as a CD/LP with material exclusive to each format. LP is pressed in an edition of 500. 'I first met Lubomyr Melnyk at a festival called Hea Uus Heli in October 2008. We were both scheduled to play that day and I was very excited to see him perform. Before the show I bought several LPs from him and mentioned as much. Lubomyr (more than modest and courteous, as he always is) asked me what I was doing at the festival and I replied that I was also performing at the festival a little later, to which he responded "I'll come and watch you," before being ushered into the hall to play one of the most staggeringly sonorous and beautiful sets I've ever heard. It was overwhelming, full of pathos and I left the hall with those incredible overtones hanging in my ears for hours. A couple of hours later, I was onstage when I glanced up and saw Lubomyr, true to his word, stood in the audience watching me attentively. I felt incredibly nervous. It's not everyday you get to play for someone who has greatly inspired and influenced your own music. After the show, I packed up my guitar and came out to meet the crowd. The first person who greeted me was Lubomyr: friendly, full of enthusiasm and keen to hear about my music, my processes, the way in which I made music. Yet again, I was overwhelmed - for very different reasons. "You have invented continuous music for guitar!" We all met at the Vortex Jazz Cafe around midday. We set up, Lubomyr at the grand piano, me directly facing him with my 12-string guitar and began. I would retune at random between songs and together we would find interesting chord progressions, hints of melodies and ways in which to weave those immense overtones that Lubomyr is able to generate on the piano with those of my guitar. No more than two takes per song. Improvisation, spontaneous composition, whatever you want to call it. Either way, it truly felt as if the piano and guitar were as one -- inseparable, parts of a bigger whole, a means by which for two people to make one sound. It never felt forced and never less than engaging. Lubomyr was always humble, jovial and open to ideas. The whole session lasted six hours.'" -- James Blackshaw, October 2012.

2013 repress. All-analog processed 150 gram vinyl. Features 2 tracks not found on the CD. "Perhaps it is best to describe Low's approach as essentialism -- allowing each musical gesture to make maximum impact. This is their fifth studio album and first for Kranky. Low remains tied to the simple grace of the voices Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker. Instrumentally, they have stretched out, but each song continues to be based on deceptively simple patterns of voice, bass, guitar and skeletal percussion."

The second album by Thomas Meluch under his Benoit Pioulard nom de guerre. Assembling various analog sources on basic software at home, Pioulard has honed his craft into a form that suggests something far grander. IMPLODES: Recurring Dream CD (KRANK 174CD)
"The band Implodes has, on their previous albums, tapped into the deep psychic recesses where our sonic memories first took shape. They have played the part of the ancient ancestor, lying submerged in the shallows, waiting to make its gambit onto dry land and into a new world. With their new album, Recurring Dream, Implodes breathes fresh air. Melodies that were once distant echoes are now suffused with energy and clarity of purpose, submerged rhythms now walk in the light of day. Implodes does not, however, eschew its heritage. Heaviness abounds. The band has not abandoned the crushing pressure of the deep, dark places. But Recurring Dream breaches the thin membrane that contained its previous efforts and preys unmolested in its new environment. There has always been an organic component to Implodes' music, and not just because the band is comprised of humans. Its music is tied to those very earliest of our sonic traditions, to the sounds of Earth and space and deep water and simple machines. Recurring Dream is about waking up in the dark and witnessing the slow birth of consciousness, still tethered to fantasies and nightmares, and walking into the unknown."

FREUND, NICK: The News Is You: The Sacred & Secular Music of Nick Freund 2CD (LION 665CD)
"Recorded at the San Francisco Theological Seminary's own Montgomery Chapel, acid-folk-rock psychedelic gem Search Party Montgomery Chapel was the brainchild of (then Reverend) Nicholas Freund. Having left Wisconsin in the late 1960s to join a burgeoning west coast religious scene, Freund spent considerable time in Sacramento before making their way to San Francisco in 1968 to lay down this one-off with some students of his. The result is a spooky, metaphysical trip that's equal parts God and acid-dripped mind expansion. Laced with haunting vocals and dreamlike passages, Montgomery Chapel is psychedelic music at its most evocative, and most spiritual. Original copies (only 600 were pressed on the custom Century label) carry substantial price tags. The recordings released by the St. Pius X Seminary Choir were made in the year or two which led up to the recording of the Search Party album. Not only did the three St. Pius X Seminary Choir records showcase the first work by Nick Freund, but they also were the first recordings of Search Party guitarist and vocalist Peter Apps. As one of the press clips regarding the Choir stated, 'The choral treatment was electrified by a few phrases sung solo by Peter Apps, who is also the lead guitar. If Apps has not already formed a folk-rock group around that voice, he should. It is rich, deep, and ringing.' Luckily, Freund and Apps heeded their advice, and the Search Party was the result. But nothing could have prepared listeners for the bizarre avant-garde (in the truest sense) electronic soundscapes backed by rock instruments which open Each One Heard in His Own Language About the Marvels of God (1968). The album settles down into a less out-there groove after the opening, but this is still adventurous stuff. During my conversations with Nick Freund, he told me that the electric sounds on the album were the work of composer Dary John Mizelle. Mizelle studied composition and participated in the New Music Ensemble at the University of California, Davis (the first free group improvisation ensemble); there he participated in a course led by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Mizelle is also a founding member of Source Magazine, Music of the Avant Garde. Our two-disc set includes both albums, plus bonus tracks taken from ultra-rare early albums by the St. Pius X Seminary Choir. The 28-page booklet is packed with information, thanks to Freund, who was gracious enough to delve into his memory, scrapbook, and photo albums to help us flesh out the portrait of one of the most potent -- and perhaps one of the most unlikely -- psychedelic groups to ever record an album."

SIENRA, VERA: Nuestra Soledad/Vera CD (LION 667CD)
"It was -- and is -- almost impossible to categorize Vera's musical style, but we'll try: wistful songs with the world-weariness of Fado, and the pulsating sadness of the bossa nova. Her powerful and unique tone of voice, plus the softness of her guitar, have always been an unmistakable trademark. Listening to the songs of Vera's debut album (from 1969), few people believed that those mature melodies were created by the beautiful and timid blonde who could be seen on their black and white TV at the end of the '60s. Vera's cousin helped her release that first LP, Nuestra Soledad ('Our Solitude') on the RCA Victor 'Vik' label. At that time, iconoclastic genius Eduardo Mateo was working for the label as an arranger and studio musician. Mateo added his music knowledge and guitar skills to Vera's songs. In 1972, Vera crossed to the other side of the River Plate (Rio de la Plata) to record her second album, Vera, in Buenos Aires, with the help of Argentinian musicians, the direction and arrangements of Roberto Lar, and the valuable help of recording engineer/guru, Carlos Piriz. Both legendary albums are included on this release. 'In Uruguay, in the south, where sleeps or sways a river as wide as the sea, there is a small country. There is a neighborhood for anyone who has lived in it, and takes its mirage forever as the way of seeing the world. Punta Carretas and Punta Brava, the southernmost point of Montevideo -- it knows Vera Sienra from her first breath. The songs were born from her, or the landscape, the solitude that is always inhabited by metaphors, which have to do with this country which measures changes in sadness, as the seasons pass. Hence the authenticity of all of them, a striking sensuality that brings something of the sea to the voice of a little girl, sometimes tired as if extracted out of a very dark interior. Vera is her song, a perpetual unity.'"

LOS VIDRIOS QUEBRADOS: Fictions CD (LION 669CD)
"Some came to make records. Others did not leave any recorded evidence -- they have been reduced (at best) to the testimony of a blurred photograph in an old magazine. But it was a generation of bands from Chile which gave shape to a stream of permeating rock, beat, folk, and psychedelia music influences radiating from the 'first world.' And on that list of pioneers of Chilean rock, Los Vidrios Quebrados ('The Broken Glass') are unanimously considered as the greatest. They had a certain intellectual arrogance. They considered that rock 'n' roll could only be sung in English and refused to sing in their native language, arguing that a cueca (the Chilean national dance) could not be sung in English. They also made their own instruments -- creating their own guitars and amplifiers from furniture and loudspeakers. On one guitar, they replaced a pick-up with a record player needle. It gave an extraordinary sound. That sort of creativity flows freely throughout the music on their only album, the now-legendary Fictions (RCA Victor/UES, 1967). The LP is an excellent collection of songs, recorded in just nine hours, with intimations of psychedelic rock amidst the influence of bands like The Byrds, The Beatles, and The Kinks (with nods to Bach and the classics), all while maintaining a fresh beat sound; Fictions is an album that can compare with the best works of psychedelic pop bands from England and America. Los Vidrios Quebrados is one of a handful of Chilean groups to receive attention around the world; and their songs 'Oscar Wilde' and 'Fictions' are considered among the all-time best tracks in South American rock history. We're pleased to kick off our forthcoming series of crucial Chilean reissues with this bi-lingual, 32-page booklet, which explores the story of Los Vidrios Quebrados in the context of the rich Chilean rock music scene. For the language squeamish -- the song titles are in Spanish, but the songs are in English."

HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER: Haw CD (POB 006CD)
"Haw, herein, is an album of eleven songs about family, faith, and an ill-prophesied future, an artifact almost as archaic, lovely and seldom heard today as directional commands for beasts of burden. M.C. Taylor, who wrote these songs, once lived hard by the Haw with his wife Abigail and their son Elijah ? 'Well I come from the bottom of the river Haw,' he sings -- but he doesn't live there anymore. Having followed the slipstream to the relative bustle of nearby Durham, North Carolina, he has composed a new clutch of tunes that conjure the half-remembered dreams of peace promised by our pasts. Taylor's writing and singing here achieve a tenebrous clarity, invoking -- and occasionally challenging -- a intermingling cast of prophetic characters both sacred and profane: Daniel, Elijah, the Apostles, and the Son of Man, sure, but also the Peacock Fiddle Band, Mississippi John Hurt, and by implication, Lew Welch, Waylon Jennings, Michael Hurley, and our friend Jefferson Currie II. 'Say whatever prayer you want: to Jehovah or Yahowah, or Red Rose Nantahala.' More than ever before, the supporting players of Hiss Golden Messenger feature as tellers of the tale. Each episode earns a meticulously turned ensemble statement."

BAMBOUNOU: Full of Feelings EP 12" (50 026EP)
Barely into his 20s, Jéremy Guindo-Zegiestowski's output has prodigiously burst onto a number of emerging labels, from his ambient percussive algorithms on the Youngunz Alpha EP to the garage house bravado of his Clek Clek Boom release Night/Brawl. Still, despite his effortless ability to channel different genres all over the musical map, there's a volatile tension that sometimes rears its head in Guindo's work, showing a duality that is engaging, confusing, and awe-inspiring.

AERA: Offseason Traveller CD (ALEPH 001CD)
Berlin-based producer Aera has been travelling off the beaten path ever since he first went on the road with his Aleph Music label back in 2010. With only five releases, he already laid out his very own musical topography in the borderlands in between house, UK bass and psychedelia. Aera is now excited to present his debut album, Offseason Traveller. It is a personal notebook of his voyage of discovery to the vast landscapes of Peru and Bolivia, fleeing Berlin in pursuit of new ideas, eyes and ears. Drawing upon influences as diverse as German Krautrock, Detroit machine funk, South American ethnic percussion and UK bass music, Offseason Traveller takes the listener on an exploration through the ever-active imagination of Aera. Album concepts are hard to shape with regards to electronic dance music, but Aera has sequenced his debut just right. From the opening off-beat ambience of "Kiss Off" and "Baby/Comet/Face," the joyful morning-glow of "Fever Beach" and the dusky, dubby "Cambio," we are taken to the swinging, jacking, 303-drenched peaks of "Leaving the Fiction" and "Chevere" towards the trotting Shaolin funk of "Die Pferden." The syncopated beatdown-ish funk of "Viejo Loco," the blippy space-opera of "Flipside of Time" and the industrial, Carpenter-esqe filmscore of "Tunguska" close the harder, more percussive mid-section of the album. To finish our voyage of discovery, "Iguazu Express" takes the listener into the closing straits with a spine-shaking, deep house groove while "By the Red Lake" berths us at our home port with sparkling keys, evocative vibrations and squelching waves of joy. Cut and mastered by CGB at Dubplates & Mastering.

TAHITI BOY & MR OIZO: Wrong Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD (BEC 5161228)
2012 release. Wrong is Quentin Dupieux's movie, the director most known under his musical alias, Mr. Oizo. During summer 2011, while he was wrapping the movie, he started to compose its score. He then had the idea to fulfill it with four hands, with David Sztanke aka Tahiti Boy, a French eclectic pop artist he met on Twitter. Indeed, Mr. Oizo, in a typical extravagant, generous gesture, offered through the social network three mythic beat machines, including a TR-808 for which Tahiti Boy (among others) showed great interest. Tahiti Boy seemed to be the most suitable to use it with relevance, and the two artists became friends. Mr. Oizo then had the idea to entrust Tahiti with the completion of Wrong's score. Settling in Quentin's Parisian apartment-turned-studio, David resumed the few compositions already began by Quentin, and finished and completed them with others (on which he sometimes used the famous TR-808). By the end of the year, the two artists reunited to adapt and shape the compositions in an album format. This is the third score from a Quentin Dupieux movie to be released on Ed Banger, in the same modernist, iconoclastic big tradition of original soundtracks made in France in the '60s and '70s.

This is the LP version of Metronomy's second studio album, 2008's Nights Out. This album is a timely, thrilling pop album -- a future electro-pop classic, comprising a wholly original mash-up of electronic and falsetto-laden brilliance. A thoroughly modern, freakishly danceable record to be listened to from start to finish. Includes the singles "Radio Ladio," "My Heart Rate Rapid," "Heartbreaker" and "Holiday."

CLARKE, DAVE: Wisdom to the Wise 12" (BNR 102EP)
One of those true techno classics is Dave Clarke's "Wisdom to the Wise," taken from Red 2. A raw, uncompromising tune, still championed by many a DJ today 19 years after its first release on Bush Records. Boys Noize, besides providing an up-to-date solid remix himself, asked Marcel Dettmann to rework this DC classic. In addition, Dave wanted the sub-bass master A. Mochi to compliment the original with a fresh new edit which remains very close to Dave's original version. Comes on red vinyl.

PAGANINI, SAM: Body to Body 12" (COR 102EP)
Sam Paganini reaches a new height with his Cocoon Recordings debut. Compared to other releases, Paganini's Body to Body EP draws quite an exceptional line. The title-track downright breathes the late air of electronic body music and lives on elements which would have also fit into "The House of God" by DHS or into some of the more minimal works of Front 242. "Fire in My Arms" is more loop-based, but still a little gloomy "Polyester" features old-school snare rolls and a kicking acid feeling.

"Berberecho" features a trashy bass line and an elastic-band stretchiness aspect on the synths, with hi-hats, sub-bass and toms to make it more danceable. "Beatin' PC" speaks for itself, and "Voy a ver" invokes the deranged disco gods who rule nightly urban boulevard confusion.

ALLENDES, FRANCISCO: So Long Reptilians 12" (DESOLAT 019X-EP)
Francisco Allendes presents the 12" So Long Reptilians on Desolat. Kicking off with "The Magician," Francisco plays with a more experimental sound. The track's vocal sample conjures up a warped reality, offsetting the deep, emotive music. "Superwave Theory" is tinged with futuristic sounds underpinned with a chugging rhythm and a ghostly vocal loop. "El Regreso de los Abuelos" is a more delicate affair and he brings the tempo back up with "Ascension 101." Finally, "Amigos del Planeta" is a punchy track that oozes an after-hours ethos. It is a sculptural revision of Stefan Goldmann's earlier locked groove-based double vinyl The Grand Hemiola, but it also serves as a genuine hauntological vinyl surface noise tool-kit. Pulling a knife or other tool to its grooves allows for cutting your own unique beats directly into the record. A total of 132 empty grooves allows for as many individual patterns to be created.

LE CAROUSEL: Le Carousel CD (PKR 001CD)
Le Carousel is the new band project from acclaimed Belfast DJ/recording artist Phil Kieran. For Le Carousel, Kieran assembled some of Ireland's finest musicians, writing most of the album while staying in Donegal on the remote west coast. Fittingly, Le Carousel evokes feelings of half-remembered childhood day-trips and windswept empty beaches. Fans of emotive electronica, blissful Balearica, artists like Spiritualized, Slowdive, Pink Floyd, Goldfrapp, Steve Reich, Rothko, Bat For Lashes, and Galaxie 500 should sign up here, although anyone with a heart is going to take something away from this extraordinary piece of work. Two influential music figures already sold on the new album are music and film soundtrack producer David Holmes and DJ/producer Andrew Weatherall, who have both remixed tracks. Weatherall has remixed club single "Lose Your Love," while Holmes has remixed the new single "Carousel."
